  1. STEP 1

    Cut off stem end with a sharp knife, and stand stem on a paper towel, cut-side down, for 5 minutes to dry.
  2. STEP 2

    Press cut side onto a large stamp pad, then onto cards, stationery, and more, blotting on paper towel between presses. Vary stamp shapes with other vegetables, such as romainelettuce stems or even brussels sprouts cut in half.

5 Ways to Fight Fat With Ayurveda

As we grow older, it can be extremely challenging to lose fat just through diet and exercise. To really fight that stubborn fat, the ancient medical system of India, known as ayurveda, uses age-old techniques that target the exercise-resistant fat by igniting your digestive fire. This is the biggest difference between ayurvedic weight loss and techniques and more conventional Western methods – ayurveda focuses on why your fat cells are getting bigger and gives you solutions that work long term. These techniques have worked for thousands of years and can be performed on a daily basis.
Ama means “toxins.” These toxins are an accumulation of impurities in our bodies that are the result of improper diet, chronic stress, and environmental pollutants. Some of these toxins are water-soluble, making them easier to remove from the body with diet and exercise. But other toxins are fat-soluble, meaning that they become stuck deep inside fat cells. The fat cells expand as they accumulate these toxins, which leads to weight gain, especially in those hard-to-remove pockets of fat around the stomach, hips and thighs.

Ayurvedic techniques are targeted specifically at removing ama from your body, which shrinks your fat cells. The older you get, the more common it becomes to have ama in your body, but it doesn’t have to be this way. If you implement daily habits and detox programs that help remove these toxins, they don’t have to become a chronic issue leading to weight gain.
The first step is to determine if you have toxins in your body. Once you recognize that you have an accumulation of ama in your body, then it is time to take action to reduce these toxins. To learn more about ama and how it manifests in your body, take this quiz.
Ayurvedic Fat Fighter #1
The first ayurvedic fat fighter is a special “detox” tea. It includes a combination of ingredients that help to improve digestion, break down fat, and “unclog” the channels in our body by removing ama

Detox Tea
Boil 4 to 5 cups of water in the morning.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of the following seeds to the water and continue to let it boil for about 5 minutes with the lid on.
  • Whole cumin seeds
  • Whole coriander seeds
  • Whole fennel seeds
Strain out the seeds and pour the liquid into a thermos. The key is to make the tea fresh every morning, place it in a thermos, and take small sips of it throughout the day. It is best to drink it warm or hot. If the tea is too strong or if you experience some initial discomfort, reduce the amount of seeds to 1/4 teaspoon for 2 weeks, and then increase it back to 1/2 teaspoon.

The next fat fighter is something I call the Triphala Treat. Triphala is an ancient ayurvedic herb that is composed of three dried Indian superfruits that work synergistically together: Amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki.
  • Amalaki works as a natural antioxidant and removes excess inflammation from the body. It also helps to increase lean body mass and maintain healthy blood sugar levels. 
  • Haritaki supports the body’s natural cleansing process by gently removing toxins that accumulate in the colon.

Here it is: Eat 50% of your daily calories at lunch. This is what’s incredibly unique about ayurvedic fat fighting: Instead of cutting calories first, you just have to change when you are eating most of your calories. According to ayurveda, lunch is the most important meal of the day because it is when your digestive fire, agni, is the strongest. You should eat the least number of calories at dinner, which should be before 7 p.m. If it sounds too good to be true, here is an experiment for you to do at home: Measure the number of calories that you are currently consuming on a daily basis. Don’t reduce the total number of calories you are eating, but eat the majority of your calories at lunch (at least 50%). Without any additional effort, you should begin to lose weight. Who doesn’t love that?

A typical day’s meals should look like this:
  • Breakfast should be easy-to-digest foods like hot oatmeal, hot cereal, or fresh fruit. Don’t eat egg yolks because it’s hard to digest – just egg whites.
  • Lunch should be your largest meal when you eat the heaviest foods – cheese, eggs, meat and desserts.
  • Dinnertime is when your digestive fire is the weakest, so this should be your smallest and lightest meal. Dinner should consist of small proportions of easy-to-digest foods such as soups or cooked vegetables. Dinner shouldn’t be eaten after 7 p.m. because your body’s digestion gets weaker at night and cannot process food as well; undigested food is turned into toxins and often stored in your fat cells.
Ayurvedic Fat Fighter #4
Add curry powder to each meal. Ayurvedic medicine recognizes six tastes – sweet, salty, sour, bitter, astringent and pungent. In order to feel satiated at a meal and eat less, you have to have all six tastes present in your food. These six tastes also help to improve your digestion and melt fat in your body. The average American diet usually only has three of these six tastes – sweet, salty and sour. Curry powder is an easy way to incorporate the six tastes into every meal. You can either cook with it so that your food gets the full flavor of the curry powder or just add a small amount as a condiment. You can even keep it in a saltshaker on your dining table and sprinkle it on your food.
Curry Powder Blend
 In a coffee grinder, grind the following ingredients together:
  • 5 tsp coriander seeds
  • tsp fenugreek seeds
  • 1 large bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 small (1 1/2 inch) cinnamon stick
  • 5 cloves
After you grind the above ingredients together, add: 
  • 2 tsp turmeric powder

Pumpkin ka Meetha

Pumpkins, during this season are spotted galore at every food market and I had brought a beautiful Pumpkin home a few days back. After enjoying a warming Pumpkin soup, I prepared a simple Pumpkin ka Meetha, just similar to Gajar ka Meetha and Kaddu ka Meetha, and الحمد لله it was delicious.

I prepared a very small quantity with left over pumpkin, and it was enough for me and my hubby. If you are thinking of preparing it for a bigger crowd, do increase the quantities accordingly.
Pumpkin ka Meetha/Halwa
Makes- 2 small bowls as in the picture
Pumpkin – 350 gms, peeled and grated (I used Chinese/Japanese variety Pumpkin, however you can try using any Winter squash or Pumpkin variety instead)
Ghee – 2 tbsp
White Sugar – 1/3 cup
Milk – 1/3 cup
Khoa – 2 tbsp, finely grated
Cardamom seed powder – a pinch
Finely Slivered toasted Pistachio+Almond – 1 tbsp
Pumpkin ka Meetha
1. Cut pumpkin in slices. Peel and cut into cubes. Grate the cubed pumpkin. My food processor does the job in a jiffy.

2. In a stainless steel saucepan at medium high heat and add the grated pumpkin and dry roast it stirring it frequently until most of the moisture is evaporated and it is mostly dry. You will also observe a slight change in color and a nice aroma.
3. Pour in ghee and keep stirring it for 3 minutes. Add milk, khoa, sugar and cardamom powder. Let cook stirring frequently until all the milk has been absorbed, about 10 minutes. Once the halwa is dry, remove from heat and let cool. Once cool, refrigerate and serve garnished with toasted slivered nuts.
Suggested Serving: To impress your guests, serve the chilled meetha in mini pastry cases that are easily available in stores. You can name it as ‘Pumpkin Meetha Tarts’.

My Limitations

I wake up everyday to my limitations.I know I cannot just dive into things and do them.So when I come out of my coma like sleep which usually comes in after 5 am in the night,I look at my body and start talking to my mind.

I tell my mind," I don't think it will be that difficult to make my bed and fold the blanket.Lets have a joint flexibility check !" Then I start my hand exercises...nay! They aren't closing down completely but maybe a little warm water soaking will open them up.Then I check my elbows,knees ,jaws and feet.Yup! I guess today wont be much of a problem.I get up,make my bed,brush my teeth,pray and have completed the first set of chores.

Then comes the cooking bit.Can I hold a potato in the palm of my hands and peel it? Can a hold a small piece of ginger and skin it? Can I cut the onions without using both my hands to dig it in? Finally done,its taken a while but I'm happy I did it on my own.

Then comes cleaning and everything that I set out to do,needs tons of breaks,tons of resting,tons of self soothing and calming.I have realised I have to love myself a lot despite all the limitations it gives me.It doesn't come very easily.

One can love themselves when they feel beautiful or vibrant or sexy or confident...but loving yourself when in so much pain,looking like a mess.Trying feeling sexy when your hands look like sausages,when you body crackles under pressure,when you are tired after walking a few feet,when you're body is screaming," Stop! Cant take more" but your mind wants to go further.

Many people think I'm being a drama queen when I complain a bit,many people think I do it for attention,many people think how much longer is she going to keep making the same excuses,many people think she looks totally fine to me...whats her problem,she ruining it for the rest of us !

I know how I feel when I cannot lift my sister's baby in my arms from the floor,or cannot run around and play with my nephews and nieces because it sucks the life out of me after some time.

Be considerate of people who have diseases not visible to the naked eye.My doctor pulled my hand straight to take blood and I let out this tiny little blood curdling scream telling him," I cannot straighten my hand or close my fist,I'm arthritic and In severe pain."He was sorry coz he felt I looked like a healthy 35 yr old.I think this will make him considerate towards many patients who present their folded,curvy hands and he will know there might be a problem here.

My mom in her mid 60s is way stronger than me and to see them upset and wondering what alien virus has attacked their daughter.I have learnt from experience,its better to educate people on what problems you have,so that they can at least be considerate when you are the moving snail in the race of life.

And I know,not being afraid to show your weak side and still being strong to pull through will earn you respect in your own eyes and in the eyes of others.Just typing all this has made my hands stiff but I will not ( as long as I can that is) stop doing the things I love like drawing,blogging,cooking and keeping my man happy as much as I can.
The fact that he thinks I'm strong and shows no mercy when it comes to certain things.He will push me to do things to a certain limit,so I know there are new boundaries to my limits everyday.The fact that when I cant,he changes into this soulful housewife and does everything and cheers me on and makes me laugh,is the only reason I find the will to push forward everyday even though my body refuses.

A letter to my mom

I found this posted on facebook and it was really cute,one of the many things I always wanted to tell my mom.I never thought marriage was difficult.I mean Im happy and unlike many of my friends and relatives I have it very easy but still I do find things demanding.I cannot weasel out of things I simply just dont want to do.I have to do coz I know it would make my husband happy and he too wanted to be pampered and loved exactly in the same way I require it to be done with me.But the way one's parents pamper cannot be compared to how others would do.Maybe because you love your parents more than life itself that what we have with them,one cannot with anyone else.

Here's the cute letter Im sure every girl would want to tell her mom :

Dear mom,

Like every normal girl, I was excited about marriage right from my childhood days. I never thought beyond the time that I would spend happily with my prince charming.

 But today when I am married, I realize that marriage is not all roses. It’s not just about being with your beloved and having a gala time. There is so much more to it. It comes with its own share of responsibilities, duties, sacrifices and compromises. I can’t wake up anytime I want to. I am expected to be up and ready before everyone else in the family. I can’t laze around in my pyjamas throughout the day. I am expected to be presentable every time. I can’t just go out anytime I want to. I am expected to be sensitive to the needs of the family. I just can’t hit the bed anytime I want to. I am expected to be active and around the family. I can’t expect to be treated like a princess but am supposed to take care of everyone else in the family. 

And then I think to myself, ‘why did I get married at all?’ I was happier with you, mom. Sometimes I think of coming back to you and getting pampered again. I want to come home to my favorite food cooked by you every evening after a nice outing with friends. I want to sleep on your laps like I have no worry in this world. 

But then I suddenly realize, had you not got married and made such sacrifices in your life, I wouldn’t have had so many wonderful memories to hang on to. And suddenly, the purpose of all this becomes clear- to return the same comfort, peace and happiness to my new family that I got from you. And I am sure that as time would pass, I would start loving this life equally as you do. Thank you mom for all the sacrifices and compromises you made. They give me the strength to do the same.

One of the many things that grow inside a uterus and cause problems for some while others barely know about it in their life are FIBROIDS.I was recently diagnosed with multiple fibroids and cysts when my usual monthly periods became a little too unbearable.We got an ultrasound done which led to many other gynecologists doing the same thing for confirmation.

My fibroids are small but I have been told that my periods will be stopped for a couple of months and regular ultrasounds will be done to ensure that no fibroids are growing out of proportions or are getting benign or malignant,which again is done through a biopsy.I just thought I will write about a  bit of my journey as I spend this time scared.

I told a couple of my friends and they all had scary stories to tell about how some relative didn't take care of themselves and were finally diagnosed with cancer at a later stage and died from it.I had my share of panic attack yesterday night and after a proper informative chat with my husband,he calmed me down and as usual we decided we would embark on every journey or problem together and deal with it with the name of God on our lips.

First of all,I have been suffering from dysmenorrhea for a very long time.Some months are blessed especially after I got married ,things changed and I had many a wonderful painfree periods.I was diagnosed with mild endometriosis and multiple cysts and damaged tubes back in 2002.I had a laparotomy done which was a very horrible surgery to recover from,had to induce menopause for 6 months,spent money like water on good medications.I blew up like a giant air ball because of the recommended bed rest.Then came the phase when trying to concieve was driving me literally nuts and suicide seemed much better than not being able to get pregnant.We stopped all other medications for once and then last year 2012,I was admitted again because of sever pain from cysts.

No medicine was given as such but rather was told to wait and come for another check up to see if the cysts were there or not.Some had gone while was left behind .This year got admitted again.Thankfully a good doctor pointed out I should have been on treatment since last year for my endometriosis.Anyways,now she has given me duphaston tablets to be taken thrice a day for 21 days and next week I go for a ultrasoound. and she will recommend what else should be done.

I was researching info on fibroids so I'm better informed and know what my body is saying.I have had this feeling of in tense pressure on the lower abdomen and difficulty passing gas /wind and passing stool.This too is a symptom with fibroids as I researched.I had not told my doctor about it as I thought that was a different problem altogether.

Facts About Fibroids
What are fibroids?Fibroids are growths on the walls of the uterus. Sometimes, a fibroid is attached to the outside of the uterus by a stalk. Fibroids can be as small as a seed or a pea or as large as an orange or small melon. Although fibroids are called "tumors," they are not cancer. They are smooth muscle growths. About two of every 10 women who have not gone through menopause have fibroids. The technical term for a fibroid tumor is leiomyoma.

What symptoms do fibroids cause?
Fibroids may cause no symptoms at all, or they may cause pain or bleeding. Fibroids may make it hard to pass urine if they grow large enough to press on the bladder. They also may cause abdominal swelling, pain during intercourse, lower abdominal and pelvic discomfort or pain, and increased uterine cramping before and during menstrual periods. Fibroids also can make it hard for you to get pregnant. Sometimes fibroids can cause problems with pregnancy, labor or delivery, including miscarriage and premature birth.

How are fibroids diagnosed?
Usually, fibroids are found by abdominal or pelvic examination or pelvic ultrasound. Less frequently, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computerized tomography (CT) scans are used.

What happens to fibroids after menopause?
Fibroids usually shrink substantially and symptoms may be significantly reduced. Larger fibroids may remain symptomatic if estrogen replacement therapy is used.

How are fibroids treated?If you have fibroids, you may have several treatments from which to choose. The choice depends on how big the fibroids are, where they are, and whether you are pregnant or want to become pregnant.
Watchful waiting may be all the treatment you need if your fibroid is small and you do not have any symptoms. You will need regular visits to your doctor for a pelvic exam to monitor the growth of the fibroid.

Non-surgical treatments for fibroids include hormones and pain relief medicines.

Surgical treatments for fibroids include hysterectomy and myomectomy. Hysterectomy is usually recommended when the fibroids are causing symptoms, when they have grown rapidly or when the fibroids are large (as large as a grapefruit).
Myomectomy is an operation to remove a fibroid tumor without taking out the uterus. The growths may come back after a myomectomy, and repeat surgery may be necessary. If you are considering a myomectomy, be sure to ask the doctor how likely it is that new fibroids might grow after the surgery. You also should ask your doctor how much experience he or she has in doing this procedure. Not all gynecologists have been trained to perform myomectomies.

Another option is laser surgery, which usually is an outpatient procedure. With laser surgery, the doctor uses a high-intensity light to remove small fibroids. Depending on the location of the fibroid, it may be possible to remove it during a laparoscopy. Or, the doctor may put a thin tube called a hysteroscope with a laser through the vagina and into the uterus. The tube may have a small scraper to scrape away the fibroid from the wall of the uterus.


Treatment for fibroids can range from no treatment at all to surgery. Unless fibroids are causing excessive bleeding, discomfort or bladder problems, treatment usually isn't necessary.
If you have fibroids, you should be evaluated periodically to review symptoms, and to monitor the fibroid and uterus size with abdominal and pelvic examinations. If you don't have symptoms, routine pelvic ultrasounds have very little benefit. Fibroids are likely to grow each year until menopause, but this isn't an indication that you need treatment, unless the change is accompanied by disabling symptoms.
The following are treatment options for fibroids:


Currently, the medications available for fibroids can temporarily improve symptoms but do not make the fibroids go away. For women with heavy bleeding, it is worth trying medication before undergoing a surgical procedure. Women with pressure symptoms caused by large fibroids won't benefit from any medicines currently available.
There are several promising new drugs on the horizon that will treat the fibroids themselves, not just the symptoms.

Contraceptive Pills and Progestational Agents

Women with heavy menstrual periods and fibroids are often prescribed hormonal medications to try to reduce bleeding and regulate the menstrual cycle. These medications will not shrink fibroids or make them grow at a faster rate.
If the medication has not improved your bleeding after three months, consult your doctor. Women over the age of 35 who smoke should not use oral contraceptives.

GnRH Agonists (Lupron)

GnRH agonists are a class of medications that temporarily shrink fibroids and stop heavy bleeding by blocking production of the female hormone, estrogen. Lupron is the most well known of these drugs. Although Lupron can improve fibroid symptoms, it causes unpleasant menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes. Long-term use can cause bone loss.
Lupron is recommended only for very specific cases. It may be recommended if you have heavy bleeding and serious anemia, and would need a blood transfusion during fibroid surgery. If you take Lupron for two to three months before surgery, your periods may temporarily stop and eliminate the need for a blood transfusion. Lupron also may be recommended if you have very large fibroids — greater than 10 to 12 centimeters — prior to fibroid surgery. Lupron should not be used solely to shrink fibroids unless surgery is planned, because fibroids will re-grow to their original size as soon as you stop taking Lupron.

Intrauterine Devices (IUD)

Although IUDs are typically used to prevent pregnancy, they have other benefits as well. An IUD that releases a small amount of hormone into the uterine cavity can decrease bleeding caused by fibroids.
An IUD can be inserted during a routine office appointment.


myomectomy is an operation to remove fibroids while preserving the uterus. For women who have fibroid symptoms and want to have children in the future, myomectomy is the best treatment option.
Myomectomy is very effective, but fibroids can re-grow. The younger you are and the more fibroids you have at the time of myomectomy, the more likely you are to develop fibroids again in the future. Women nearing menopause are the least likely to have recurring problems from fibroids after a myomectomy.
A myomectomy can be performed several different ways. Depending on the size, number and location of your fibroids, you may be eligible for an abdominal myomectomy, a laparoscopic myomectomy or a hysteroscopic myomectomy.
  • Abdominal Myomectomy — During this operation, an incision is made through the skin on the lower abdomen (a "bikini cut"). The fibroids are removed from the wall of the uterus, and the uterine muscle is sewn back together using several layers of stitches. You will be asleep for the procedure. Most women spend two nights in the hospital and four to six weeks recovering at home.
  • Laparoscopic Myomectomy — In a laparascopic myomectomy, four one-centimeter incisions are made in the lower abdomen: one at the belly button, one below the bikini line near the pubic hair, and one near each hip. The abdominal cavity is filled with carbon dioxide gas. A thin, lighted telescope is placed through an incision so the doctors can see the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. Long instruments, inserted through the other incisions, are used to remove the fibroids. The uterine muscle is then sewn back together, the gas is released and the skin incisions are closed.

    You will be asleep for the procedure. The recovery is shorter than for an abdominal myomectomy — typically, women spend one night in the hospital and two to four weeks recovering at home.
  • Hysteroscopic Myomectomy — Only women with submucosal fibroids — fibroids that expand from the uterine wall into the uterine cavity — are eligible for this type of myomectomy. Fibroids located within the uterine wall cannot be removed with this technique.

    During the procedure, you will lie on your back with your feet in gynecology stirrups. You will most likely be asleep for the procedure. A speculum is placed in the vagina and a long, slender telescope is placed through the cervix into the uterine cavity. The uterine cavity is filled with fluid to lift apart the walls of the uterus. Instruments passed through the hysteroscope are used to shave off the submucosal fibroids.

    This is an out-patient procedure, and you may go home after several hours of observation in the recovery room. Most women spend one to four days resting at home to recover.

Hysterectomy is a major surgical procedure in which the uterus is removed. Many women choose hysterectomy to definitively resolve their fibroid symptoms. After hysterectomy, menstrual bleeding stops, pelvic pressure is relieved, frequent urination improves and new fibroids cannot grow. A woman can no longer become pregnant after a hysterectomy.
The ovaries are not necessarily removed during a hysterectomy. Generally, if a woman is in menopause or close to menopause, the ovaries are removed. The ovaries may also be removed if they look abnormal or if the patient wants to decrease her chance of developing ovarian cancer later in life. In pre-menopausal women, removal of the ovaries can cause hot flashes, vaginal dryness and other symptoms. You should discuss the pros and cons of ovarian removal with your doctor.
There are several hyterectomy surgical approaches: a vaginal hysterectomy, an abdominal hysterectomy and a laparoscopic hysterectomy. The choice of procedure will depend on the size of the uterus and several other factors.
  • Vaginal Hysterectomy — A vaginal hysterectomy is performed by removing the uterus through the vagina, rather than through an incision on the abdomen. To be eligible for a vaginal hysterectomy, your uterus cannot be too large.

    You will be asleep for the procedure. Most women stay two nights in the hospital. The recovery involves significant pain for 24 hours and mild pain for 10 days. Full recovery usually takes four weeks.
  • Abdominal Hysterectomy — In an abdominal hysterectomy, the uterus is removed through a horizontal incision on the lower abdomen, called a "bikini cut." If the uterus is very large or if there is a scar from an earlier operation, it may be necessary to make a vertical incision instead.

    A total abdominal hysterectomy means removing the uterus and the cervix. Women who have had abnormal pap smears are usually encouraged to have their cervix removed. A subtotal or supra-cervical hysterectomy means removing only the upper part of the uterus. Women who retain their cervix may have less bladder leakage and vaginal relaxation later in life; however, this has not been scientifically proven. Women who have had a supra-cervical hysterectomy will continue to need periodic pap smears. In addition, some women will have monthly spotting or light bleeding if endometrial glands are still embedded in the cervical tissue.

    You will be asleep during the procedure. Most women spend three nights in the hospital and six weeks recovering at home. Some women experience a complication that results in a longer recovery time.
  • Laparoscopic Hysterectomy — This is a new procedure in which the uterus is removed through very small incisions on the lower abdomen. The cervix remains in place. Women with large fibroids or a large uterus may not be candidates for a laparoscopic hysterectomy.

    In the procedure, four one-centimeter incisions are made in the lower abdomen: one at the belly button, one below the bikini line near the pubic hair, and one near each hip. The abdominal cavity is filled with carbon dioxide gas. A thin, lighted telescope is placed through an incision so the doctors can see the ovaries, fallopian tubes and uterus. Long instruments, inserted through the other incisions, are used to remove the uterus. A special instrument is used to cut the uterus into smaller segments for removal through the small incisions. At the end of the procedure, the gas is released and the skin incisions are closed.

Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE)

Uterine artery embolization is a relatively new procedure and an alternative to open surgery for fibroids. Embolization is a technique that blocks the blood flow to the fibroid or fibroids, causing them to shrink and die. This also often decreases menstrual bleeding and symptoms of pain, pressure, urinary frequency or constipation.
UAE is performed in a radiology suite rather than an operating room, by an interventional radiologist. An intravenous (IV) line will be placed before beginning the procedure, and you will be sedated. You will remain awake, but sleepy, throughout the procedure.
A needle is placed in an artery in your leg, at the groin crease. A small catheter is then placed into the artery and X-rays are taken of the arteries — a test called anarteriogram — that supply the fibroids. The catheter is then used to select these arteries and slowly inject particles called polyvinyl alcohol, which are the size of a sand grain. The particles block the flow of blood. After the left and right uterine arteries are embolized, another arteriogram is performed to confirm the procedure is complete.
Afterward, you must rest in bed for six hours, lying flat with your leg straight. The amount of pain patients experience varies. The most significant pain usually occurs immediately following the procedure and over the next six hours. Patients usually stay overnight in the hospital, so we can monitor the arterial access site and provide adequate pain control. You will be discharged the next morning. Most women can return to full activity in a week.
When blood flow to the fibroid is blocked, the fibroid gets no oxygen and will begin to die. This process happens over days to months. During this time the fibroid shrinks by about 40 to 50 percent and the uterus by about 30 to 40 percent. Our experience and the scientific literature suggest that symptoms will improve in 80 to 90 percent of patients. For some, UAE is ineffective. Serious complications occur in less then four percent of patients.

Rooh Afza - your summer cooler

I have loved rooh afza for a very long time.But I had to quit a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.Otherwise it was my staple during the summers.You can drink it in limits and the way I take it,its very very good and healthy for you.Besides when your body with simmering in the heat,why drink stuff like Pepsi's and cocoa colas and seven ups when you can have a healthy alternative.

This is Rooh Afza in a bottle.

This is the one made in Pakistan.

The other few ingredients you need for my first recipe is cold milk and the following two ingredients are optional but they add to the flavour and healthy part of cooling your body down, they are katira gond/stercullia gum/indian tragacanth and tukh malanga/basil seeds.

Recipe for the milk drink :

1 cup cold milk
1 tbsp rooh afza
1 tsp katira gondh
1 tbsp tukh malanga

 You can garnish with slivers of pista or almonds or fruits or have it plain.
Stir it well and enjoy !

Recipe for rooh afza,this time without milk :

1 cup of chilled water
2 tbsp of rooh afza
2- 3 tbsp of freshly squeezed lemon juice
and garnish with mint leaves or lemon rind shavings.

Stir well and enjoy!

People also add seven up to rooh afza and mix and drink but why go for an unhealthy option when you can go organic.

Tea and benefits

I have been an ardent tea drinker now for more than 7 years and I like black with no milk or sugar.Give it to me 8 times a day and Im a happy and alert soul.Ahem !

  1. Tea can boost exercise endurance. Scientists have found that the catechins (antioxidants) in green tea extract increase the body’s ability to burn fat as fuel, which accounts for improved muscle endurance.
  2. Drinking tea could help reduce the risk of heart attack. Tea might also help protect against cardiovascular and degenerative diseases.
  3. The antioxidants in tea might help protect against a boatload of cancers, including breast, colon, colorectal, skin, lung, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, pancreas, liverovarianprostate and oral cancers. But don’t rely solely on tea to keep a healthy body — tea is not a miracle cure, after all. While more studies than not suggest that tea has cancer-fighting benefits, the current research is mixed.
  4. Tea helps fight free radicals. Tea is high in oxygen radical absorbance capacity (“ORAC” to its friends), which is a fancy way of saying that it helps destroy free radicals (which can damage DNA) in the body. While our bodies are designed to fight free radicals on their own, they’re not 100 percent effective — and since damage from these radical oxygen ninjas has been linked to cancer, heart disease and neurological degeneration, we’ll take all the help we can get.
  5. Tea is hydrating to the body (even despite the caffeine!).
  6. Drinking tea is linked with a lower risk of Parkinson’s disease. When considered with other factors like smoking, physical activity, age and body mass index, regular tea drinking was associated with a lowered risk of Parkinson’s disease in both men and women.

  8. Tea could keep waist circumference in check. In one study, participants who regularly consumed hot tea had lower waist circumference and lower BMI than non-consuming participants. Scientists speculate that regular tea drinking lowers the risk of metabolic syndrome (which increases the risk of diabetes, artery disease and stroke), although it’s important to remember that correlation does not equal causation.
  9. Regular tea drinking might also counteract some of the negative effects of smoking and might even lessen the risk of lung cancer (good news, obviously, but not a justification for cigs).
  10. Tea could be beneficial to people with Type 2 diabetes. Studies suggest that compounds in green tea could help diabetics better process sugars.
  11. Tea can help the body recover from radiation. One study found that tea helped protect against cellular degeneration upon exposure to radiation, while another found that tea can help skin bounce back postexposure.
  12. Green tea has been found to improve bone mineral density and strength.
  13. Tea might be an effective agent in the prevention and treatment of neurological diseases, especially degenerative diseases (think Alzheimer’s). While many factors influence brain health, polyphenols in green tea may help maintain the parts of the brain that regulate learning and memory.

Health Benefits of Tea: Green, Black, and White Tea

Tea is a name given to a lot of brews, but purists consider only green tea, black tea, white tea, oolong tea, and pu-erh tea the real thing. They are all derived from theCamellia sinensis plant, a shrub native to China and India, and contain unique antioxidants called flavonoids. The most potent of these, known as ECGC, may help against free radicals that can contribute to cancer, heart disease, and clogged arteries.
All these teas also have caffeine and theanine, which affect the brain and seem to heighten mental alertness.
The more processed the tea leaves, usually the less polyphenol content. Polyphenols include flavonoids. Oolong and black teas are oxidized or fermented, so they have lower concentrations of polyphenols than green tea; but their antioxidizing power is still high.
Here's what some studies have found about the potential health benefits of tea:
  • Green tea: Made with steamed tea leaves, it has a high concentration of EGCG and has been widely studied. Green tea’s antioxidants may interfere with the growth of bladder, breast, lung, stomach, pancreatic, and colorectal cancers; prevent clogging of the arteries, burn fat, counteract oxidative stress on the brain, reduce risk of neurological disorders like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases, reduce risk of stroke, and improve cholesterol levels.

  • Black tea: Made with fermented tea leaves, black tea has the highest caffeine content and forms the basis for flavored teas like chai, along with some instant teas. Studies have shown that black tea may protect lungs from damage caused by exposure to cigarette smoke. It also may reduce the risk of stroke.

  • White tea: Uncured and unfermented. One study showed that white tea has the most potent anticancer properties compared to more processed teas.

  • Oolong tea: In an animal study, those given antioxidants from oolong tea were found to have lower bad cholesterol levels. One variety of oolong, Wuyi, is heavily marketed as a weight loss supplement, but science hasn’t backed the claims.

  • Pu-erh tea: Made from fermented and aged leaves. Considered a black tea, its leaves are pressed into cakes. One animal study showed that animals given pu-erh had less weight gain and reduced LDL cholesterol.

Limited research has been done on the health benefits of herbal teas, but claims that they help to shed pounds, stave off colds, and bring on restful sleep are largely unsupported.

  • Chamomile tea: Its antioxidants may help prevent complications from diabetes, like loss of vision and nerve and kidney damage, and stunt the growth of cancer cells.

  • Echinacea: Often touted as a way to fight the common cold, the research on echinacea has been inconclusive.

  • Hibiscus: A small study found that drinking three cups of hibiscus tea daily lowered blood pressure in people with modestly elevated levels.

  • Rooibos (red tea): A South African herb that is fermented. Although it has flavonoids with cancer-fighting properties, medical studies have been limited.

Instant tea may contain very little amounts of actual tea and plenty of sugars or artificial sweeteners. For health’s sake, check out the ingredients on the label.

Can Tea Be Bad for Your Health?

Most teas are benign, but the FDA has issued warnings about so-called dieter’s teas that contain senna, aloe, buckthorn, and other plant-derived laxatives.
The agency also warns consumers to be wary of herb-containing supplements that claim to kill pain and fight cancer. None of the claims is backed by science and some of the herbs have led to bowel problems, liver and kidney damage, and even death.

Star anise tea: promotes digestion 
Star anise, the fruit of a small evergreen tree (Illicium verum) native to China, can be used in the treatment of digestive troubles such an upset stomach, diarrhea, nausea etc. One may drink a tea made from it by steeping a whole pod in one cup of hot water for 10 minutes. Strainthis and sweeten it if required. Sip on this slowly when an upset stomach occurs. 

Peppermint tea: controls what you eat 
If you like peppermint tea then try and rotate that with a green tea drink as both speed up digestion and thus help you burn more calories. The peppermint leaves can be used to make a light, refreshing tea, which can be drunk either hot or chilled. To prepare the tea, take a tablespoon of fresh or dried leaves and add them to boiling water and let it steep for four to five minutes. Strain and add honey, if needed. 

Green tea: builds metabolism 
Research says the chemical EGCG found in green tea that speeds up the body's metabolism, is responsible for helping people lose the kilos - it can burn a whopping 70 calories a day! Green tea also raises the level of antioxidants. It's believed the antioxidant catechins in green tea boost metabolism and helps burn fat (can burn a whopping 70 calories a day!) Steeping time for the tea: two to three minutes at 85 Degrees Celsius. 

Rose tea: prevents constipation 
One of the oldest flavouring teas available, rose tea - made by mixing fresh roses and the bud of the tea - has a major therapeutic effect on the human body. Apart from clearing toxins and beautifying the skin, rose tea contains vitamins A, B3, C, D and E and is known to act against infections. It also prevents constipation and helps one lose weight. 

Oolong tea: guards against obesity 
Research reveals that oolong, a semi-fermented tea may have a stronger effect than even green tea. It promotes fat burning is said to help reduce cholesterol and the concentration of fat in the body. About two cups per day is recommended. Steep oolong tea anywhere from 30 seconds to five minutes, for a more full-bodied cup.
